5.0 out of 5 stars VERY SATISFIED WITH THIS PRINTER

I've had probably a dozen printers, mostly laser printers, in our home the last 20 or more years. All the printers we've owned have been fine; nothing special but they all did a decent job. I tried an ink cartridge color printer but found the color poor and the cartridges short lived.
But the Epson ET-4800 printer is a pleasant surprise.
PROS:
It's reasonably priced.
The ink tank technology is great. After 2 months and approximately 400 pages, (about 80% pages with color) the black ink tank is still over 50% full and the color tanks are over 80% full.
I had no setup problem at all. It took less than 30 minutes.
The standard color is fine for handouts and presentation. The high resolution color is fair to good photo quality.
The black and white printing is fast enough for me, and the same for standard color printing.
CONS:
The display screen is small, but I have not found this to be a problem.
Printing on both sides is not automatic, but I've worked around this.
There is no paper tray; you have to load the paper from the rear and it holds about 50 24lb sheets. For someone doing higher volume work this could be a problem.
The printer makes a real racket while printing, even with my very poor hearing. No printing late at night. This is the only real issue with me.
Again, I'm very pleased with this printer. It fits my needs.

5.0 out of 5 stars Epson EcoTank ET-4800 Wireless - Just What I Was Looking For
Reviewed in the United States on May 12, 2024
Style: ET-4800Color: WhiteSet: FAX/ADF/Print/Copy/ScanVerified Purchase
I wanted a printer with ink tanks instead of cartridges that had a document feeder and was under $500. This is a great printer and works the first time, no connection issues after initial installation. I had an HP and it always had wireless connection issues even though it was close to the router. The installation could have been a lot easier if I hadn't needed to configure it manually using the small screen on the front. The text is so small and having to switch between caps, lower case, numbers, and symbols was difficult. The screen is only 1" x 1". My suggestion to Epson, make the screen bigger. It looks like there is plenty of room on the front panel for a bigger screen. I didn't need tech support so I can't give them a rating.

5.0 out of 5 stars Needs a sturdy desk or table

I like the printer and it quality. I use it for my small business (teasmepleaseteas.com) and it helps tremendously. I did research on the best ones and this one was among the good ones. It just needs a sturdy desk or table because it does shake a little when it prints. BUT it is your money, spend it how you like.

1.0 out of 5 stars defective and nonoperational out of box. Epson customer service is F minus.

I bought this printer via amazon and had high hopes to free myself of the expensive ink with other brands of printers. but there was something wrong with it when trying to set it up. Called Epson customer service and after several minutes they said it had a defective hardware issue and could not be fixed by phone support. they connected me to warranty dept. Incredibly, the warranty department put every conceivable obstacle in the way to honoring warranty. they wanted the Amazon reciept, which they made me take a scree shot of and send them. then once i did that, they said that wasn't acceptable as it didn't show if it came from 3rd party seller. I said. "what difference does that make". the reciept showed me as the purchaser, the exact product description and date of purchase and delivery and amount paid. what else more did they need. So after 20 minutes of back and forth with Epson on this, they said they'd accept the Amazon reciept. so then they were going to send me another if i sent the defective one back first. I didn't trust that as if i sent it back without the replacement first, and then they just neve sent the replacement, i'd be SOL. so they said they would charge my credit card the amount of the defective printer and mail me the replacement first and issue me a credit when the defective one got to them. but then they said i was giving them invalid credit card info and they could not process warranty claim. I knew the credit card info was accurate and called Discover customer service on another line and put them and Epson customer service on speaker phone to basically create a 3 way call. Discover said that the Epson person was inputing address incorrectly and thats why it was getting rejected. Epson had my full printed address from Amazon reciept and the Discover representative and myself repeated the address to the Epson rep again to him verbally. but he still said he could not process warranty claim and that we were giving him wrong address. In summation after two hours, it became plain Epson refused to honor their warranty by all these fake receipt and address issues that did not exist. I ended up calling Amazon and explained all this to them and how Epson kept me on the phone for two hours and would not honor warranty. so Amazon took it back. So i am returning it to them. So for me, I will never buy an epson product ever again. they refuse to honor their warranty. defective right out of the box and all the above occurs. Since it never worked from day one, i can't clearly rate product features, etc. but buy this brand at your own risk. If you do buy it, make sure you get it from a retailer who will stand behind you as Epson surely will not.

4.0 out of 5 stars We Returned it but Print Quality was Very Good
Reviewed in the United States on April 21, 2024
Style: ET-4800Color: WhiteSet: FAX/ADF/Print/Copy/ScanVerified Purchase
We ultimately ended up returning this Epson EcoTank ET-4800 printer scanner, but it wasn't because the product was not up to par. In fact I would say these are all things that it performed exceptionally well at.
PRO's:
- Print quality we very good, not perfect. It has some issues printing faint colors from a graphic image we scanned. The scan picked up things like light blues in the sky and faint green grass, but the printer mostly left those areas white as it couldn't seem to translate the scanned image to print. My guess is this has to do with the Epson software and not the printer itself. Certain details, though, were very sharp compared to other printers we've had in the past. Regular text documents were also sharp and crisp/
- The scanner also scanned true to the artwork we put on the scanner bed.
- Ink is super easy to install, should last far longer than the cartridges, and is cheap for replacements. Great value for the money.
- It has a quiet mode setting, and that setting worked great.
CON's
- The scanner bed was very small. All other all-in-one printer scanners have a larger flatbed, so if you have a slightly larger picture or brochures to scan, this bed is too small.
- The Epson scanner software does not have an option to "fit to page." In other words, it will cut things off in the print if an image is even close to the border of a regular sheet of paper. I eventually found a workaround to this, but it was very convoluted and hard to find. We have another Epson and that one uses older software with a simple checkbox (fit to page) so why this much newer printer did not have this option was frustrating until I found a workaround.
- The printer is very slow. Our 7-year-old HP that died (this was the replacement) was printed in black and white at 20 ppm and in color at 15 ppm. This printer was nearly twice as slow.
REASON FOR RETURN
Overall, this is a very good printer and scanner. The reason for the return was that there was a rather notable piece of debris UNDER the scanner glass. It's unfortunate that manufacturers don't make it so that the scanner glass can be easily removed for cleaning purposes. That's something they all should consider.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love this printer

I love this printer it was easy to setup on my phone and computer the smart app tells you step by step what to do. The printer prints well and I love the scanner. it allows you to scan in as many pages as you want and then creates it into a PDF for you. I did do a lot of searching for the best printer and this is exactly what I want. The new ink instead of toner is great. Toner at store for printers are so expensive but a combo pack of 4 inks for this printer is significantly lower than one cartridge of ink.

Same day delivery with prime. Easy setup with IPhone app. Prints ok from PC and iPhones. I had problems connecting to Chromebook on wireless network. I had to use Chromebook advanced settings to enter network IP address of the printer. Chromebook does not recognize the ET4800. I have latest updates 06/11/24.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice printer

I’ve had the printer for about four months and have only used about a third of the blank ink. I’ve printed about 500 copies. I really like this printer for the price I paid except for: 1) There is no paper tray. The paper sets on a slanted shelf in the back however the shelf is smaller than the paper so the paper sags and eventually bends. I build a cardboard extension for the shelf so it supports the entire sheet of paper. That way I can leave the paper in the printer without it sagging and bending. 2) You can scan documents but not to a jump drive. I could do that with my old printer. I miss that feature. 3) This printer does not print on both sides. You can manually print on both sides by flipping the document over and feeding it through again but it’s a pain. Eldon does have Ecotank printers that print on both sides but the are really expensive right now.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great printer but aggravating for me

The printer is great, but lately it takes an act of Congress to get it to print. I do a lot of Wi-Fi printing and every time I try to print something it takes me about 15 minutes and a lot of cussing. It’s constantly saying ‘check ink levels’ it started that after the fifth time I used it ( 1 page each) now it’s the first thing that pops up on the display. I bought more ink and topped it off, no change. Some times when I print things from my phone it works great, but most of the time after a few tries I just shut it off and then turn it back on and most of the time it works. Maybe I’m not doing something right! I don’t know. It’s a great printer and I recommend it mainly because you don’t have to buy expensive ink cartridges every other month. That’s why I gave it 4 stars. If someone knows the secret to making it easy for me I’m all ears.
