5.0 out of 5 stars Very pleased with performance and consumables.

Many years ago, I was the proud owner of a Canon PIXMA printer (sorry, can't remember the model) when quality was paramount in the build, operation, interface and resolution, and the consumables. Prior to that ownership, I used other manufacturers and models and found the Canon line superior. With other units, I experienced clogs jets, high ink use and slow print and scan speeds. After some years, my Canon would no longer come 'online' to my WiFi and even direct PC linking was intermittent despite returning it to factory reset or attempting technical support.
As I searched for a replacement, I checked out the current offerings and found most to be wanting...an evident lack of quality in construction, noticeable loss weight (heft), and features. I looked at other manufacturers and aside from 'buying to try', couldn't find a another manufacturer without spending a fortune for a home printer. I opted not to go the ink tank route since I print only occasionally (a lot when I do) and tank reviews are mixed requiring frequent printing.
I purchased a different Canon model, and didn't like the print speed, noise and rate of ink consumption.
I have that unit away and purchased this model and am pleasantly surprised by the differences. I had some experience with an earlier version of this model (purchased for a relative), that had the same front panel, front/rear paper loading options, SD chip option, WiFi connection and ink replacement features.
I didn't see any of that as off-putting - in fact, rear loading (especially for heavier stock) is a plus. So cutting to the chase: I'm please with this model. The GUI/LED panel has all the functions you could look for and is intuitive...you don't actually need a manual. Linking to the WiFi was simple and quick. The print speed is faster than I anticipated and ink consumption is clearly better than the prior Canon unit. The network experience is good (laptop) , particularly when using Canon Inkjet Smart Connect (and likewise the mobile app when printing from it - both iPhone and iPad). Scanned images of documents, etc. are crisp, although I wish it would offer more than 600dpi when doing photos or images, but in those cases I use my iPhone/iPad for captures.
Bottom line: Canon still makes a good product 'tho the trend has been to use cheaper materials - more plastic parts noticeable in heft and feeling less solid. But all the competitors are doing likewise. And ink consumption is a problem across all lines, but that's where they make their most profit even with tank units. There appear to be complaints about WiFi setup and performance; I have not encountered any issues with Canon software setup, and I will say that this touch screen interface is much easier than other Canon units.
Lastly...there are complaints about having to raise the control panel to print - freeing up the space for paper tray loading and exiting prints. But I don't really find that so annoying. The backlit LED panel is large and the touch screen easy to access, navigate and the functions intuitive. I wish the ADF could handle two-sided originals, but again not necessarily a deal breaker for me - it might be if I had large double-sided documents to scan or copy.
I hope this helps.

5.0 out of 5 stars So far, it works, basically
Reviewed in the United States on February 18, 2024
Style: PrinterVerified Purchase
The only requirement for a printer is just to work - to do its job when needed. This one has been tested for several weeks, not 20 years like one of my previous printers, thus, it is too early to rate. Nevertheless, I hesitated quite a bit because of negative reviews before buying; and this review with "nominal" 5-star is just to allay the fear of someone who might hesitate like me:
1- Setting up isn't that smooth, but it is hard to blame Canon, because the printer has many features, functions, so, smart things are usually a bit complicated. One has to be patient to go through and set it up correctly. Once it is done, with all the Canon software (just basic, not fancy) installed, it will do its job.
2- Printing: since it is new, hard to know when "paper/carriage jams" will occur. I threw away my 3-yr old HP printer because even though it was hardly used, the "paper/carriage jam" problem was beyond tolerable, not to mention misprinting, misaligned on non-common media such as envelopes, checks, labels, etc. Hence, those are the things I tested on this Canon, and so far, with two trays, one cassette for letter-size paper, and one rear feeder for uncommon sizes, the printer works. It works, that was all to be asked of it. How many years (or months) will it work is a different matter.
Bottom line, not fancy, but it works so far because it is new. Its print quality is decent for its class of inkjet printers in a similar price range. Photo printing on Canon glossy paper is quite nice looking. I don't have a need for heavy printing, just occasional usages, less than a dozen pages at a time with regular black/color. So far, it is very nice and trouble-free. In particular, I recalled frequent problems with my previous HP inkjet printer when printing thick and odd-size envelopes. This one so far is very reliable. I only hope that it will continue working without HP's classic "paper/carriage jam" troubles.
A last note: it is well-known that HP makes money by selling very expensive ink. The rate of ink usage of this printer so far is much better than that of HP.
So, if one is considering a low-end full-function, all-in-one printer, I would recommend this over any equivalent HP. I will never buy a HP again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lift front window pannel all the way up and other tricks
Reviewed in the United States on February 1, 2024

Terrific printer, but one detail is not spelled out: you need to lift the front panel all the way up. If not, you keep getting the error code 1240: the printer thinks the support tray is not pulled out. A glitch in an otherwise great printer. A significant improvement over my old Canon MX452.
Update: I let the printer use wi-fi on first installation. Big mistake. While my wi-fi signal is strong enough for phone calling, printing proved to be extremely slow since all that color data had to go upstairs to the router and back down to the printer. I plugged in a USB cable connected to my computer (not supplied with the printer) but the printer still wanted to use wi-fi. I had to spend another session with Canon tech support to uninstall the drivers and reinstall the USB driver in first place. Now printing is swift.
BUT: duplex printing is slooooow. The printer prints the first page, then pauses for about a minute, then sucks the paper back inside to print the back side. Printing a long document is going to be very slow.
Still, for the price, this is an amazing printer. My digital art work prints beautifully. Still giving it 5 stars.
New update: Once I figured out the printer's quirks, I fell in love with it. It prints my digital images beautifully. It is reasonably fast. As for duplex printing, the reason it pauses so long is to let the ink dry before sucking the paper back inside to print the other side. One needs patience. It works beautifully. Ten stars!
PS: refills from E-Z Ink are excellent.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works great with 2013 27" Mac OS Catalina 10.15.7
Reviewed in the United States on May 18, 2024

I purchased the Canon Pixma TR8620. You must then go to Canon's website and download their setup app. It wasn't too difficult to go thru all of the steps. I did DECLINE their monthly subscription because I only print out maybe 200 pages per year. My computer is a 2013 Mac OS Catalina 10.15.7 and I just finished printing out 21 color pages of text with some colored areas and they look very good. I'm writing this review because I had purchased an HP Envy 6452e at Walmart and it said that it works with Mac. But then when I tried to use it, during the set up process after going thru all of the steps on their website the HP would not work because they said my computer operating system was too old. The HP envy 6452e only works with NEWER versions of the Mac computer but they didn't tell that anywhere that I could find. But they still were asking me to sign up for a monthly subscription while I was unable to connect it to my old Apple computer that somehow still works perfectly. I'm writing this review to help anybody that might be going thru the same problem that I just went thru for the last 5 weeks while researching for what printer might work with this older version Mac.

5.0 out of 5 stars New Canon Pixma Upgrade
Reviewed in the United States on May 14, 2024

I got this Canon Pixma printer to replace an eight year old Pixma that finally quit. It was so easy to set up and get running. This printer also saves ink as each color of ink has it's own separate cartridge. No more having to throw out one cartridge just because one color ran out of ink. It prints perfectly and both the touch screen and task bar icon are equally simple and quick to use. Having auto shutoff when idle is nice as it saves some power in the long run. My only complaint is that I wish the paper tray held more papers. I hope this one lasts me eight years too. Thank you Canon.

5.0 out of 5 stars Replaced a 25+ year old Canon PIXMA for my home office
Reviewed in the United States on June 6, 2024
Style: PrinterVerified Purchase
Similar footprint and weight as my previous Canon.
PROS:
~Quick print
~Easy touchscreen
~Needed a fax and scanner as well as a printer.
~Personal preference to cartridges over ink bottles
~Quick delivery
CONS:
~Not keen on the paper tray in the back. My old Canon had a paper tray at the bottom of the printer.
~As always, it took a little finagling to get this printer to connect and print.
~Turns off when not in use. My old Canon stayed on and didn't sleep. Still remembering to turn it on and then start printing as the printer is in a central area of the house and not in my office.

5.0 out of 5 stars Even If This Is A Honeymoon, I'll Take It!
Reviewed in the United States on June 4, 2022

UPSHOT: Windows 11 updates are causing these problems, not the printer; right now, the only thing they're interfering with is the FAX capability (don't sneer techheads; FAX is the only secure way to transmit documents other than snail mail. I had to shell out $40 for UPS to get financial documents out by deadline, and I could SCREAM!)
UPDATE: I'm not calling a divorce lawyer, but am on the verge of packing a bag and going home to mother. Trying to Reader's Digest this as much as possible, the printer stopped talking to the PC. Every print job gave an error message and got stuck in the queue, I uninstalled and reinstalled constantly, posted on the user "help" forum, ignored, then I found that instead of the printer icon, or the FAX version, that had downloaded, Microsoft IPP Class Driver (?) kept going to default so I tried printing with that, and it worked with Word and Adobe, but nothing else. No photos, no email. I tried the forum again and got such a condescending, idiotic response from a "moderator" -- you know the kind that never held any position of any authority at any time in life, and now has a picture of Putin hanging in their bedroom? No help there. I haven't called support yet because it's all just been too much in general these days, but it's still a neat little printer, when it wants to be bothered.
*************
I bought this printer with the sword of Damocles swinging above my head; my Epson printer reached its print limit, yep, you read that right, and could only be reused if I got it to Epson so they could change the pads in the ink waste tank (neither one of us is on anything, you're reading that right, and I'm telling it straight) and reset the print capacity, and for a cost higher than I paid for the foul thing - keep in mind, this is happening all in the middle of my business I actually took it apart and replaced the pads successfully with a kit from ebay, but the code to reset the counter was buggy as a picnic, so...in a panic, I bought an HP, and it was OK for a couple of weeks, until I had to use the scan function; FAX would have worked as well. If it worked. None of that downloaded with the regular printer software, and if you ever saw the circus of downloads that didn't work, no support, conflicting instructions...bless Amazon, they took it back and sent me this.
In the time it took me to use the "F" word in several languages while trying to get the HP to work, this little beauty downloaded everything perfectly, scanned beautifully and allowed me to finish up all my unfinished business. The touchscreen is clear and a good size, the text sharp, what an absolute relief. Of course, as with many honeymoons, this may go sour, and I'll let you know if it does, here, I'm not going to make a Tik Tok or ask strangers for their opinion on Reddit or anything...But so far, this is acting like a little gem.
