5.0 out of 5 stars Stream-line looking printer

When I use the scan feature, it is completely silent! It's not the fastest printer, but adequate for how much I print. I was dubious about the liquid ink, but it was easy and did not leak out. Set up was easy. This is a handsome looking printer. I bought a canon (all black), which is the color I wanted, but I got it home and the copy function did not work so I had to return it. Funny thing is that the copy function of the Canon in the store on the same model did not work either when I tested it. So HP it is! Also, I was fairly certain that I needed a top loader to print my 110-pound card stock, and it works great. I didn't want a top loader, but I had to get one, and now I realize how easy it is to grab a piece of paper out of it when I need one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy to set up -works great so far-had it about a month - will see how it holds up!-

Easy to set up. I like that the ink doesn't seem to dry out as fast as with the old style printer cartridges.
Hopefully it lasts several years- I have really had it with planned obsolescence and I am tired of investing in items that only last a short time- hopefully this last well beyond the promised 'you get 2 years worth of ink- implying the product will last beyond that- which I hope it does. We are all trying to function in the modern world but if it become too burdensome to do so more of will simply 'opt out' of all of it, so I hope companies start to realize that and build products that people can buy maybe 2- 3x in their lifetime vs having to fill land fills and dump plastic in the oceans. Anyway sorry for the mini rant but seriously it's enough. The printer has worked very well for 1 month so far- I need to print scripts at home for my work which I feel guilty enough about. I hope I don't need to throw this printer in the trash in a year- will circle back after some time has passed and up dated but so far so good- easy to connect to wifi nice image quality - having some trouble printing some PDFs in color- but that might be a local problem.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent printer.

Really a fantastic printer for the money. The set was easy, instructions were complete and easy to follow. It connected wirelessly no problem with my older Mac computer. It prints wirelessly with ease. The quality of the print and color contrast I think it’s excellent for the money, better than my previous Epson printer. I like the fill up ink cartridges. I think it will be cheaper in the long run because of the ink as well.
I use the printer for occasional printing, a few times a week, and my kids use it for school projects so for the average family out there that’s not printing that much, I don’t think there’s much be on this that you need

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Printer, MacOS, Eco-Refill,
Reviewed in the United States on April 18, 2024

HP Smart Tank 5101:
Excellent printer. Great on MacBook.
Bought for economical refill cartridges with bottles of ink. Easy to fill.
Never going back to cartridge systems, in home office printers.
Notes on "Draft" quality printing:
"Draft" setting is very quick printing, just ~3 sec/page, (full page of text).
This setting is meant to print out an incredible number of sheets/minute.
However, take note of the "Specialty Paper"(thick) setting, as printing "Draft"(low) quality paper using the "Plain Paper"(cheap plain printer paper) setting leaves some ink areas unsettled and may smudge.
Increasing quality to "Good"(medium), or "Best"(highest quality), adds printing time, only a few sec/page, (full page of text), and will prevent any small smudge areas.
"Draft" is intended where minute smudges are negligible, and large quantity of print-outs are needed in compact office form factor.
Notes on Install:
Super easy. You will figure it out.
Notes on Paper:
Have run everything through it that I have (Cardstock, 75gsm, 200gsm, Linen, Cotton, #10 Envelopes, Avery Sheets, ).
Reliably prints on everything without problem.
Be diligent to set paper type to "Specialty Paper", if your paper is at all different from 75gsm (plain cheap paper).
Notes on Ink usage:
Refillable cartridges. Simple, easy to fill and load.
Prints by Wireless and USB( and USB-C to MacOS ) without weird software add-ons.
HP App is encouraged, but not needed, "HP Utility" will save print presets in MacOS without downloads.
Have printed more than 400 pages B&W, ( full page 12pt, low & med quality )
and ~50 Color (CMY) beefy, ( >30% color/page area ).
B&W down only ~5%,
CMY down only ~3%,
Confident( at this rate ) it will print another
10,000 B&W pages, with B&W ink shipped/included ( K=135mL, ) .
And another
2,000 CMY pages, with all ink shipped/included ( C=50mL, M=50mL, Y=50mL, ) .
Thank you HP, and
always remember to Have A Good Day !

5.0 out of 5 stars Fast quiet printer, and it’s cheaper than you realize

When you add the cost of a couple of ink refills onto the cost of a cheap printer, it’s not very different than the cost for this unit. And this way, I am protected from a bit of inkflation ??.
I love how easy it is to load paper, and how very quiet it is. The prints are vivid and clear. It’s not the fastest, but how fast does it need to be? It does a very nice job for the money

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy setup, Quality printing

After many years without a personal printer, we decided to get one. Our previous experience with HP all-in-one inkjet printers prompted us to look at this product line first. From the provided device descriptions we picked our favorite (this one), then compared it to similar printers from other manufactures. After looking them all over, we kept coming back to our first choice. So glad that we did. When the HP printer arrived we were a bit nervous about setting it up. We were happily surprised that the crew at HP packed step-by-step instructions beginning with taking it out of the box, all the way through doing the first test prints. The instructions included large pictures and diagrams so that we did the right action in the right place at the right time for a flawless start with this printer. Now, we have never had a tank printer before, so we cannot comment on the ink-life, but we can say that the print quality is concise, clear and crisp. Following the provided instructions we also set up the printer for remote printing from our phones, as well. A+++

5.0 out of 5 stars Why Didn't I Get This Sooner?

Amazing.
When I found out this existed, I got a used one here for ~$80.
I've printed hundreds of pages, the majority coloured, & only just noticed the black ink level start to drop.
The included bottles fill the ink tanks up about halfway - much more economic/environmentally friendly than traditional printers.
The only potential downside is that you *must* have a smartphone, use the app, & have a wifi connection in order to use; not a problem for most people though.
9.5/10 as far as I'm concerned.

The ink on this is incredible. I do a lot of pictures for work and so far I estimate I saved $275.00 in ink and they are still half full, on the original ink it came with.
Incredible savings on ink. And everything else works well on it.
Highly recomended

So, have never been a huge fan of HP printers. But I wanted something that had tanks, not huge, not expensive, quality printing, and could print EASILY from my phone. Big ask right?
I'm 100% satisfied with this purchase thus far. I'm good with technology, until I'm not. It was very easy to set up. I was printing from my phone within an hour of taking it out of the box. The print quality is fantastic.
