5.0 out of 5 stars Works with Eero mesh system
Reviewed in the United States on January 5, 2024

TLDR: good printer, works with eero wifi mesh system, set up in less than 10 minutes - great step-by-step instructions via HP Smart app. If you need a basic printer for occasional printing that's super easy to setup, get this.
I initially bought the Canon Pixma MG3620. Downloaded their app to get things setup and what a nightmare. I have an eero wifi and the PIXMA printer would not show up on initial scan. I would select scan again after clicking a series of buttons on the printers and then it would popup only to show my wireless network listed 4 times with me being left to determine which one I connected to. I assumed it didn't matter but it did given after selecting 1 and inputting the password, it wouldn't connect. I would click the series of buttons on the printer again to begin the process again only to have all the wifi networks show up (mine + other networks it found) but in a totally different order. This meant I couldn't even weed out each of my 4 networks to find which one was right. Also, the one time I did manage to get it to connect, I had to set my eero wifi in legacy mode for it to connect. As soon as I removed it from legacy mode, the printer began failing again only for me to begin attempting to get it connected again. I looked on many forums but eventually couldn't find a solution as many other people had issues as well.
Why do I mention the printer above? Because I then bought THIS hp printer and simply downloaded the app, plugged in the printer, turned it on, and followed the step-by-step instructions (with animations) and it immediately found my network and connected. No duplicate entries, no hassle, it just worked. I was printing within minutes. I then tested printing on my mac, my downstairs PC, and my phone with AirPrint and it all just worked. I spent almost 2 hours on the canon printer troubleshooting and it was just a huge headache. As for print quality between the two, I couldn't tell you, but if you just need a basic occasional printer, you can't beat this for the price and simplicity. Hope this helps.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect Little Hobby Printer

I did not buy this for heavy use and it is not suitable for such. But for my purposes just printing out sheets here and there, maybe 10 a month, it holds up great! Set up is super easy and it runs like a charm. Love that it comes with ink cartridges + 3 months of free ink. After I think it's a $2 charge to keep a subscription, basically free IMO. Totally worth it if you need something casual!

5.0 out of 5 stars Good printer

This is the first printer that has worked with my laptop. Quick, easy setup. Prints fast, good quality. Packed wonderfully. Want to warn people, rather than following instructions, it may be best to just follow your screen prompts and use the "add a printer" directive. If you DO try to go to the website the instructions suggest, in your search results, you MAY run into a website that looks like it is HP, but instead is just a scam, trying to scare you into the "fact" that your computer has a virus and they want you to pay $199 to "fix" everything. If you see no choices except to enter into a "chat", get out. Just don't go there. If you enter the chat thing, they'll ask for your phone number, call you, then pretend to help you set up and install your printer, and then, when it doesn't work, they'll say it's because you have a virus in your computer that has gotten there through your WiFi. It will be a long process--in my case, about 45 minutes, and then they will offer to "save you" and fix everything for a one-time fee of $199. That is when the alarm bells sounded and I realized this was not an employee of HP helping me, but a scam, and I ended the process. But, be warned, these people will be INSIDE your computer, doing stuff! Scary. Never again.

5.0 out of 5 stars I Don't See What the Big Fuss Was...

I had no problem setting this printer up. That being said, I am a millennial. No offense to the older generation, but if you are not one who is privy to technology or its many advances, this printer will not be the easiest for you to set up... To make things easier for those that might struggle with setup, here they are in layman terms:
1. Take Printer out of the box.
2. Take off all wrapping.
3. Plug it in and turn it on.
4. Slide up the back printer paper tray.
5. The blue marker in the middle of the space on this this tray, needs to be slid over to the left, before you can add paper. You might have to pull it forward and up before you can slide.
6. Open the bottom panel, open the inner door, unwrap the ink and insert the cartridges as directed by the illustrated guide.
7. Get your smartphone, because this is how you are going to be setting this up. If you don't have one, then you have to go to 123.hp.com and set it up that way, but it's highly recommended to use the app on the phone.
8. Download HP Smart from the apple store or the play store.
9. Select the first option to set up a new printer. As long as the Wi-Fi light on the printer is flashing and the Wi-Fi/Bluetooth light is on, on the smartphone you should return a result of your new printer.
10. From there, set up your new account or log in with your current HP account if you already have one.'
This took me all of five minutes to do, not long at all. Very easy set up for someone who is technology-savvy or who is able to follow instructions well.
Make sure to hit that you are replacing your old printer if that is what you are doing as well. If you want to set it up on a desktop, you can go to 123.hp.com
To me, this isn't hard to, but I do think that HP could have laid out the instructions much better than they did. It's like they assumed that everyone would understand to get out their smartphones and set up their printer like there was no problem at all. They need to work on that and make it more user-friendly.
The printer itself is great. Nothing is broken, connected easily, looks very nice, and is printing wonderfully. I would highly recommend this printer to others as long as they are comfortable with this type of setup process.

I have looked and looked for an easy to set up printer. I’ve read countless reviews and always deleted the printer I had selected. Finally out of desperation needing to print and copy many documents I ordered this printer. I downloaded the app and within 5 minutes the printer was working beautifully. Even printing from my phone! Very VERY happy I ordered this item! Highly recommend! BTW I’m 70 years old and was worried about the directions. No problem!!

5.0 out of 5 stars REVIEW FROM A NON-TECH GUY

This has been CONCISELY what I was looking for.
Like you, Dear Reader, I window shopped so many and chose this one because of the reviews.
I had to trouble-shoot a few things setting it up, yet once I corrected my user error mistakes, this printer has been WONDERFUL.
I use it about once every two weeks for letters, and random stuff.
So that's my use frequency, and the wireless has been no fuss and I'm so darn impressed when I turn it on, it works, and in a few seconds I have the printed page in my hands.
I was SO. WORRIED. about tech glitches and such.
But really it was setting it up, and then off to the races.
From a novice, just wanting to print occasional things, this is the printer you're looking for.
Respect!

5.0 out of 5 stars Set up was easy.

I debated about getting this printer based on all the bad reviews but kept coming back to it because I previously had an HP printer that lasted over 10 years, so being that I'm not super tech savvy I figured it might seem more familiar.
I took some advise and said no to setting up an account or the free ink. I did not have to enter my email or anything. It sort of felt like I was not going to be able to do much without signing up but I just kept saying no, and was able to follow the prompts in the app to set up my printer. Once downloaded you really do not need the app anymore. I can print from any apple device that we have and my macbook without downloading anything. As long as you are on the wifi network you can print.
I just needed this to scan/copy, and print basic stuff. I'm not expecting this to be a high quality photo printer, but the copies seemed pretty good in my testing. I printed some coupons off the internet from my phone and my husband's phone, and a document I needed from my macbook and all were passable.
One thing I liked about this one is that I can leave the tray closed and since I have it on a desk it will spit the print right out the bottom. My old one I had to leave that door open. This has a door you can open if you need to but it's nice for us since we are just occasionally printing stuff like coupons to not have to leave that door open. I keep it on a small writing desk in our dining room, and there is plenty of room for other things on the desk.
It does not come with any cords to hook up straight to a computer but it does have a port. My old printer had such a cord and even though I never needed it I kept it just in case someday I need to attach a laptop or something.
One other thing I like about this one is that it just has a normal cord to plug it in. My old one had one of those big blocks in the middle of the cord. Apparently they figured out a way to put all that junk inside the printer.
Anyway for fifty bucks I was up and printing in a few minutes and I'm not signed up for any kind of ink service. I know I will pay through the nose for ink but since we do not print that much I can live with it. They do warn you that there is a chip in the ink cartridges that forces you to buy ink from them but I our last one was like this and it would take some of the generic cartridges I tried. I'm sure the ink that comes with it is a small amount so I'll be buying more ink to have on hand.
I'll come back and update if I notice anything pertinent that comes up.

I really liked that this printer was plug and play. I recommend the HP smart app because it makes everything so easy. You can set it up very fast and it is wireless so you don't have to sit next to it with a cord. It scanned very easily and made copies with just a touch of a button. It prints quickly and in very high quality.
